Eastwood Bowls Ladies Jack Attack

Most of you would know that Lawn Bowls participation is slowly dwindling and in most clubs Female participation is very low. Not true here at Eastwood, we have a little over 50 percent of our members as female. However I digress, this story is about Eastwood’s drive to recognise a gap and then aim to address it.

When Bowls Aust/Vic introduced the Jack Attack competition several years ago and encouraged Bowls Clubs to host, we at Eastwood embraced the opportunity and hosted a mixed Jack Attack. However we quickly noticed that female participation was almost nonexistent, so we took up the challenge to also run a female only Jack Attack which is now in its 5th year. These women come from various parts of our community; they are not affiliated with any Bowls Club, just women looking to try something new, with a little bit of competiveness but a whole lot of fun. The competition is put together and run by two of our members with great support for others in the club.

This year we have seven ladies teams participating, some are now Jack Attack regulars with a few new ones being introduced to the game. Our first night was on Wednesday 8th of November and as usual a very lively night; the competition runs for 4 – 5 weeks. It’s great to see our Greens alive with these amazing, enthusiastic women of all ages.
