Rescheduled ERBR – Under 18 Open Singles Championship

I write on behalf of the Eastern Ranges Junior Development Committee to
provide an update in relation to the U18 Open Singles Championship.

Consistent with the Committee’s aim to develop future
Region/State/National champions, the Committee is committed to holding a
U18 Championship event.  Dates for this event were set some weeks ago at
a time when individual Clubs and Regions were shaping their own bowls
programme following the disruptive impact of COVID-19 restrictions
imposed by Government during 2020.

Entries to the event closed on Friday 29 January with the 1st round
scheduled for Sunday 8 February at Glen Waverley Bowls Club.  The number
of entries received was very pleasing.  However, some individuals were
unable to enter the event due to a conflict with Club/Region
Championship events.  Added to which, a number of Eastern Ranges squad
members have enjoyed their own success in progressing through to
subsequent rounds in various Regional Open Championship events.  The
consequence of this success is that a number of individuals would have
to reconsider which events they would participate in as the competition
dates conflict with the U18 event.

Rather than expect junior members to make such important decisions, the
Junior Development Committee has arrived at the difficult decision to
postpone the U18 Championship to a future date which does not conflict
with Region events.  It is likely that Round 1 of the event will now be
held in early March subject to the availability of the host Club.

Under the circumstances, then, entries to the U18 Championship will
remain open until Friday 26 February 2021.  Entries already received
remain valid unless advice is received that you no longer wish to play
in the U18 event.  An amended entry form is attached in case the revised
dates are more suitable.

Further information will be provided once the situation concerning
Region events become clearer.

In the meantime, the Committee apologises for any disappointment and
inconvenience caused as a result of the decision to delay the event and
would like to thank you for your understanding.
